The demo data set

One coherent narrative — a single operator, a single vessel, one operating cycle, 139 rows across all 54 models. Start at Vessels → Southern Trader and follow the drill-downs.

The players

Code What it is
SCS Southern Coastal Services — the operator
SCS-HOLD Southern Coastal Holdings — the owner
MARSERV Marine Services & Repairs — the service contractor (fire-pump repair)
MTA Maritime Training Academy — the training provider
SCS-001 Southern Trader — a class-2 non-passenger landing craft, the hero vessel
Alex Morgan (P001) Master
Sam Lee (P002) Engineer
Jordan Patel (P003) Deck crew
Chris Nguyen (P004) Owner / designated person (the shore ↔ vessel link)
Dana Ellis (P005) Internal auditor
Robin Frost (P006) Contractor technician (MARSERV)

The headline scenario (pre-departure fire-pump defect)

Code What it is
SMS-SCS-001 The vessel's Safety Management System (full, current, v1.1)
ST-2026-041 Voyage Brisbane → Gladstone, general cargo + two vehicles
VI-2026-088 The pre-departure inspection — overall result FAIL
DEF-2026-018 The critical defect: fire pump discharge 2.8 bar < 4.0 criterion, effect UNSAFE
MW-2026-052 The corrective maintenance work: replace perished suction hose, retest
EV-2026-101 Evidence: pressure-test result, 4.3 bar (passes)
First VoyageReadiness NOT_READY — defect unacceptable, FFE not ready
Second VoyageReadiness READY — repaired, retested, independently verified, master approves
INC-2026-006 A later minor injury during cargo discharge at Gladstone
II-2026-006 Its investigation (root cause: PPE condition not in the pre-task check)
AUD-2026-02AF-2026-02-01 Internal audit and its finding (PPE recording)
CA-2026-011 Corrective action closing the finding and the investigation, verified
SR-2026-01 The annual SMS review (concludes a revision is required)

Rules of thumb

  • Follow the vessel. Almost every record hangs off Vessel; open Southern Trader and use the drill-down tabs to reach its certificates, SMS, crew, maintenance, voyages, incidents and audits.
  • A certificate that exists is not a certificate that is current. Check verification_status and expiry_date, not just the presence of a row.
  • A voyage is only as good as its readiness assessment. A Voyage with an open critical Defect should carry a NOT_READY VoyageReadiness — the demo shows both the block and the release.
  • Reporting ≠ investigation ≠ action. An Incident links to a separate IncidentInvestigation and one or more CorrectiveActions; a finding or a defect can each spawn their own action, tracked independently to verification.
  • Roles are distinguished on purpose. Where a table references Person through more than one column (assessed-by vs approved-by, reported-by vs verified-by), each is its own drill-down tab — that separation is the whole assurance argument.
  • The workflow rules are documented, not enforced. Numbering masks, the readiness gate, the three-way separation and closeout are all held by the demo data rather than validated by the app (Phase 2).
